Armes is a recent BFA graduate with an emphasis in spatial arts from Northern Kentucky University. Within her work, she uses ceramic image transfers combined with unique textiles and found materials to explore the real-life consequences of the virality of hypersexual personas in the media and how it connects to the history of an everyday woman’s place in society. Her work has been exhibited several times within Northern Kentucky University. Through painting moments often labeled mundane: I intend to bring mindful engagement back into the spaces we reside in. Our homes are the first spaces many of us found safe refuge, imaginative exploration, and a space to express ourselves. We need to find a slowdown amidst the many accelerants and distractions in today's world (i.e., societal obligations, screen time, ads) and find time to be instead of do. Drawing from a background in fashion design and personal experiences with cancer, Yam uses veins and arteries as recurring motifs to reflect on memory, transformation, and human connection. Working with materials such as silk, ink, clay, and glaze, she creates layered works that move between the personal and the collective.
