As an artist, I am constantly looking at the world for inspiration. The inspiration can come from the work of another artist, from nature, or from dance and the human body in motion. In my artwork, I use vivid color, patterns, and shapes to represent the world in a simplified manner and to express my passion for creating. I approach art making as both an artist and a teacher. Planning art projects for my students and mapping out my own artwork often happens simultaneously. The inspiration for my work sometimes comes to me while I teach or as I watch my students create. Just as I believe that my background and experience in art education complements what I create as an artist, I believe all of an artist’s experiences are poured into their work. This is certainly true of my work. The work I create over a month is not simply the product of a month, but rather the product of my entire life’s experience. |
