With Summerfaerie, I intended to show the magic of the season.  When I think of summer, it reminds me of the freedom of summer breaks, the joyous wonder we can still find in children, and the beauty found in wildflowers.

I normally make small, personalized quilted pillows for my friends and family, so making a piece of this size was a new experience for me.  Not being bound by choosing characteristics of people I know, the faerie developed into an idealized version of myself.

In creating this piece, I first painted the fabric with diluted acrylics and then embellished it with beads, floss, and a variety of fabrics in order to imbue a feeling of fantasy.
