Summerfair Gala Quilts

This piece was inspired by a poem by ee cummings, “I Carry Your Heart”. The first time I heard the poem, I fell in love with it and wanted to make some art in response…it made me think about my grown children, our relationship and the awe and magic of giving birth and raising such interesting and complicated people…it truly is the “wonder that is keeping the stars apart”. The fabric has been waiting around for a long time…I bought most of it at a yard sale given by Lenore Davis, a fabric artist who died over ten years ago. These velveteen pieces were her scraps. I also carried her heart as I gave them a new home and thank her for their use.
