Goddess of Summer, is that Fair? 23" H x 15" W |
The
Mexican Surrealist artist Frida Kahlo said she makes art about herself
because
she knows herself best. I make art about myself because I
like myself
best. Just kidding. kind a. My art is a
reflection of me, my
microcosm of the universe. One thought, conversation or
observation can
inspire an entire piece of art. The doll you see here is
based on a song
I like from the musical Porgy and Bess. I have never seen the
show, and
only heard the song once or twice. Those details haven't
stopped me from
shamelessly singing "Summertime" all the time. She is the
Goddess of Summer, long legs in a bite sized bikini hanging on the
beach where
the " fish are jumping". Okay, so I guess she isn't a true
representation of me, my legs are a little shorter than that, and my
belly a
bit rounder. I guess that is what they call "artistic
license."
All around the doll are some of my thoughts about summer. One
example
being the last time I wore a bikini I was in the 6th grade, and it was
this
hideous poked-doted number. My cute jelly belly was hanging
out and I
didn't care. That day I truly was the 6th grade Goddess of
Summer. A
doll similar to this goddess will be featured on the HGTV show That's
Clever
this June.
