Summerfair Cincinnati’s VOLUNTEERS OF THE MONTH
Summerfair Cincinnati (SFC) is chock full of enthusiastic and passionate member VOLUNTEERS! Every month, I'll be highlighting several SFC members who continue to go "above and beyond" for the good of the organization. This article will also be highlighted and archived on our website, www.summerfair.org. It’s a fun way to get to know your SFC colleagues – especially some of their personal interests!
What is a D.E.V.?
D: ded’ i – cat’ ed adj. Devoted, faithful
E: en-thu’ si – as’ tic adj. Intense or eager interest, zeal
V: vol – un – teer n. one who chooses freely to do something
December features three Summerfair Members. They are Nathan Stein, Ann Flynn and Bob Bader . A link to prior Volunteers of the Month is shown at the bottom of the page.

December 2008 D.E.V.: Nathan Stein |
Nathan is BRAND NEW to the Summerfair Cincinnati organization, having come on board as our new Fine Arts Fund Business on Board volunteer. During our “speed dating” event at the Playhouse in the Park, Nathan was drawn to Summerfair by our mission of using an arts fair to promote the arts throughout the Greater Cincinnati region. Nathan’s favorite thing about being a volunteer is having so many opportunities to contribute to the organization –“ it’s very energizing to feel so productive”!
Currently using his many development talents, Nathan is sitting on the Fundraising/Sponsorship committee.
The 2009 Fair will be Nathan’s first, so he’s yet to form “fond memories” of any one special green shirt experience…but, we'll make sure that changes during the upcoming Fair.
Nathan resides in Amberley Village with his partner and has no kids. He’s a Sales Coordinator with Aflac, Inc. (add duck quacking noises here!). He loves to read, enjoys running and travel; his favorite vacation spot is St. George Island, which is his family retreat.
Nathan enjoys a good steak and rooting on his UK Wildcats. Currently, he’s reading The Road.
Please join me in welcoming Nathan to the Summerfair Cincinnati family! |

December 2008 D.E.V.: Ann Flynn |
Ann Flynn is a 6 year member of Summerfair Cincinnati, having joined after experiencing Summerfair as a rite of spring for herself and her family. She decided 6 years ago that it was time to learn more about the organization and to give back to the arts community through joining. She enjoys helping make decisions that will shape the growth of Summerfair Cincinnati’s future, by using her professional expertise as a marketing professional and sitting on the marketing committee.
So openly honest, when asked about her one favorite memory from volunteering at the Fair, Ann said “Volunteering at the Fair is fun, but who are we kidding?!? It’s ALL about the shopping!” So keep your eyes pealed and make way in those booths for Ann’s fast hand as she pulls out the credit card at the 09 Fair! Her favorite poster? The next one. She enjoys the anticipation of seeing the entries and learning the outcome of the vote the best.
Ann lives in Anderson with her husband, another Summerfair Cincinnati member/volunteer, Bob Bader. They have no children, but enjoy their 6 nieces and 3 nephews. Ann owns 2 companies (she’s one busy gal); one in market research and Star Glazers – a mobile paint-your-own pottery service. She brings everything needed to paint pottery, helps with your projects, then takes the pieces home with her to glaze fire (awesome, big kilns out in her garage – amazing!). The pieces come back to you in two weeks, glazed and ready to use. She does birthday parties, ladies nights, fundraisers, church groups, after school enrichment, and corporate gigs.
When those two companies aren't keeping her busy, she also enjoys volleyball, hiking and traveling. Her favorite vacation spot is exotic Maui and when asked her favorite food and drink, she said iced tea with no ice and most kinds of fruit. Ann’s currently in the middle of about 4 books, but she does keep up daily with Time magazine and the Enquirer. Her favorite sports teams are the volleyball teams she plays on. |

December 2008 D.E.V.: Bob Bader |
Another 6 year member of Summerfair Cincinnati, Bob enjoys doing volunteer work in an area that he enjoys; the arts. His favorite thing about being a member/volunteer of Summerfair is the people. He likes filling in wherever he’s needed; we can always count on Bob to help with IT issues and I've heard that he’s being groomed to become a member of the illustrious “Gang” at the Fair (I keep wondering what sort of “initiation” rites he’s been put through, but am too scared to ask! I think it might have something to do with water guns?!) Bob enjoys driving the golf carts at the Fair (is this part of the job description for the gang?!) and states that there are a lot of the posters that he likes, but that he’s still waiting for one to become his favorite.
Bob lives in Anderson with his wife, Ann Flynn and is employed at Children’s Hospital Medical Center as a Computer administrator. His hobbies include being a musician – he’s the drummer in the band Spare Change (www.sparechangecincy.com). Bob’s favorite vacation spot is Disney and enjoys Coke Zero and deep dish pizza.
